Occupational Therapy services encompass the evaluation and intervention for individuals experiencing ongoing (> 12 months) cognitive and sensory processing challenges subsequent to a neurological incident or diagnosis, such as a mild traumatic brain injury, post concussion symptoms, functional neurological disorder or stroke. Our specialized services cater specifically to individuals struggling cognitive function and persistent symptoms of sensory overload that impact their daily functioning, placing a strong emphasis on sensory regulation, attentional control, and pacing.
Kindly note that the provision of in-person occupational therapy services is restricted to residents of South Vancouver Island (BC). Virtual services are available to BC, AB and ON residents in BC. It is important to highlight that while these services are not covered by your Provincial Medical Services Plan (MSP), Shannon Ellis is a registered healthcare provider for Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) and certain extended health plans may provide coverage.
If you are unsure if you would benefit from Neuro-focused Occupational Therapy or have questions please send me an email or complete a referral form and indicate that you would like to book a 15 minute call to discuss how OT might help you.
Please reach us at shannonellisot@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Occupational therapy can help with a wide range of conditions, including but not limited to: stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorders, developmental delays, mental health conditions, and chronic pain.
During your first occupational therapy session, you can expect to undergo an evaluation that includes an assessment of your abilities and limitations. Your therapist will work with you to identify your goals and develop a personalized treatment plan based on your needs and preferences.
The length of occupational therapy treatment depends on the individual and their specific needs. Some individuals may require short-term therapy, while others may require ongoing therapy to manage their condition and maintain their level of function. Your therapist will work with you to determine the appropriate length of treatment for your needs.
